NOURISH …. with a place at the table + farm to freezer

Recently I had the opportunity to watch the TEDX  presentation Changing The Way We Eat at a viewing party sponsored by Cultivate KC.  I have previously spoken highly about Cultivate KC and their fantastic organization posted here on the blog.

One topic discussed was the new documentary called A Place at the Table, directed by the same people that directed Food Inc. The documentary came out over the weekend and discusses the 50 million people in our country that are food insecure.  It is incredibly eye opening and will hopefully encourage some positive change about how we engage this heartbreaking issue in our country.  It is available for rent through iTunes, On Demand, and also in select theaters. One charity that was presented at the TEDX conference that stands out as a true leader in the right direction is called Farm to Freezer. They work with their generous local farmers who are donating excess food. In turn, they freeze nutritious food, eliminate waste, and nourish the hungry without the copious amounts of processed food. It sounds like we need more programs like this in place throughout our country. View details of their successful operation here.

There  are 3 segments and they are each around 1-1/2 hours, so watch in small doses and absorb all of the great information. They also have a great guide with ideas and resources for changing the way we eat found here.

Enjoy! And please share any other organizations that are nourishing communities and people in need with healthy food, I would love to hear about them.

  1. we did the hen house farmers co-op last year it worked great for us. Between that, our little garden before the extreme heat and the downtown farmers market we had lots of yummy veggies to eat. Plus Hen House co-op included milks, cheeses, and meats for the rest of the family.
