Where do I begin… so many fantastic adventures in Maine over the summer. Great trip for the memory banks!
some of our highlights include…
OUR JOURNEY (there and back, totaling 56 hrs, included great bonding moments for the boys and our family, lots of movies, audio books, drawing, sleeping, standard sibling squabbles mixed in + much needed photo and computer organization by me)
CLIMBING, RUNNING, TREADING (with very little caution and so much determination) over countless rocks that form the terrain of the coastlines of Maine.
MANY HIKES THROUGH ACADIA NATIONAL PARK AND ALONG THE COAST OF ACADIA
DOING THE ABOVE HIKING AND ROCK CLIMBING WITH DEAR FRIENDS!
NO FEAR FOR THIS GIRL!
SPENDING HOURS EXPLORING
COUNTLESS INSPIRING TEXTURES ON THE RUGGED ROCKS
THESE BROTHERS HAD THE BEST TIME EXPLORING AND THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO GROW MUCH CLOSER ON ADVENTURES LIKE THESE.
THE HUNT FOR PERFECT ROCKS, FOR YET ANOTHER COLLECTION
The hikes along the coastline through Acadia were incredible and so exciting for the kids to explore. Here are some of the trails we explored. The links for some of the hikes listed are on Terrain 360, which is such a great hiking resource, with photos taken along the map of the trails. You can truly imagine you are on the trail and the boys loved looking at some of the trails we explored.
Wonderland trail … this one I went back to the next day for a peaceful early morning hike alone.
Ships Harbor Nature Trail – figure 8 trail through the woods and more fun on the rocks. We came back here with our friends the same evening after pizza to hike/climb again.
Epic hike with our dear friends up Pemetic Mountain, picking berries at the top, and ending up at Jordan Pond house for a late lunch and blueberry soda overlooking a field of blueberries.
Beech mountain and Canada Cliffs Trail … more berry picking, more climbing, and more bonding with friends
OUR COZY ONE BEDROOM CABIN IN SOUTHWEST HARBOR IN ACADIA
BLUEBERRY PICKING WITH OUR GREAT FRIENDS ON THE TOP OF PEMETIC MOUNTAIN
These were souvenirs I picked up at the Acadia National Park gift shop for the kids. They include maps of all of the National Parks and room to journal memories of the trip. I’m really looking forward to more adventures at some other National Parks, so they can explore their maps and write about their adventures.
PLAYING THE SENSORY GAME (aka, keep emma occupied so she is not asking for snacks or to be held). Basically it is an impromptu scavenger hunt to search for something smooth, rough, hard, dry, wet, white, green, brown, spiky, moving, and so on. She loves it!
I COULD SPEND HOURS WATCHING THE DAPPLED SUNLIGHT THROUGH THE FOREST TREES. SO PEACEFUL AND REJUVENATING!
My dear friend Erin and her family (that we stayed with during part of the trip and had many hiking and lake adventures with) gave us so many great recommendations during our stay. One was this great organic farmstand at Beech Hill Farms.
After spending time in Acadia we stayed with our friends at Sebec Lake in Dover Foxcroft, Maine. Stutzman’s farm was a favorite local destination with great fresh produce, the best brick oven pizza, and U-pick raspberries, a very special treat. This is also the location of a renovation/development project my husband and Erin’s husband are working on and another reason we spent some time here. Take a look here at the Mill at Dover Foxcroft project.
MANY NIGHTS DINING AL FRESCO, SO THE KIDS HAVE EASY ACCESS FOR SWIMMING AFTER!
A FAVORITE SPOT ON THE DOCK FOR THE KIDDOS .. IT WAS A GREAT NIGHT FOR POPSICLES AT SUNSET!
Until next time Maine!
