Lately the boys have been seriously practicing their archery skills and we thought it would be fun to use this theme as our valentines this year.  They came up with the catch phrase “stick around valentine” when I mentioned including the honey stick as a treat.  I so enjoy having my creative helpers around.

I used a corrugated cardboard coffee sleeve to make the original arrow collage and then made a printable sheet for you to download and use.  One template has the to: and from: and the other does not, in case your (younger) child prefers just to sign their name.

We had so much fun creating this for you and hope you enjoy!

DIRECTIONS

You will need creme or white colored card stock.  I like the warmer quality of the creme color, but feel free to experiment printing on various papers.  100 % pure honey sticks are available at health food markets or here. (these are what we decided to use).

Print the Template and cut each valentine out. Cut at the 2 dotted lines on the arrow with an x-acto knife or utility blade and then let your children slip in the honey stick.

printing note: be sure to click on the template links below and save to desktop or acrobat before printing for best results.

CREATE + NOURISH … with a gift of thanks + yummy pumpkin squash butter

download free template for thank you gift tags by five and one

This Thanksgiving season offer the gift of thanks by making a homemade treat or buy something lovingly made locally.  I created a gift tag for you to download and print by painting a leaf from our backyard and pressing it on paper to use as a simple gift tag for a hostess gift or for anyone that you would like to give a special thank you to.  Click on the link above and print the template on off-white card stock for best quality.  Cut out the tags and either use a hole punch and twine or tape to your gift for giving.

The kids loved planting and watching these pumpkins completely take over our garden this summer and now we are enjoying the harvest in some very tasty recipes!   We found this Australian heirloom pumpkin squash from Bakers Creek Heirloom seeds.

I used this recipe for fresh pumpkin butter from Oh She Glows using our fresh pumpkin squash and sweetened it with the brown sugar she mentions instead of sucanat and used vanilla bean instead of vanilla extract.  Very Tasty!

Enjoy and give thanks to the ones you love!

NOURISH + CREATE …. citrus + herb sea salt for mother’s day by five and one

The boys and I shared some special time creating this seasoned sea salt for my mother and mother – in- law for their special day.  They had so much fun picking the herbs and zesting the fruit!  I have included the labels for you to print and use. Some without dear mom to be used as a gift for any special someone. Simply use this template and print on heavy white or creme card stock.

Citrus + Herb Sea Salt Recipe

1 cup coarse sea salt

1 teaspoon each of sage, thyme, and, rosemary

1 teaspoon each of lemon and orange zest

Preheat oven to 200 degrees.  Finely chop herbs and zest and mix with the salt.  Place on a baking sheet and bake for about 8 minutes, just enough to dry the herbs and zest.  When the salt is cooled you or your child may crush together with your fingers or pulse in a food processor to incorporate the flavors of the salt, herbs, and fruit zest. This salt works great on most everything, especially eggs.

I used these weck jars for packaging, but any small jar would work well.  enjoy!

favorite part … zesting the fruit!

enjoy creating this easy gifting recipe with your children.
